Visit to Moseley Bog & Joy's Wood Nature Reserve
On Thursday, 24 May 2018, the group was led by two knowledgeable guides belonging to 'Friends of Moseley Bog & Joy's Wood Nature Reserve' on a fascinating tour of the site. This turned out to be a thrilling meander through 'Moseley Bog', a territory known to JRR Tolkien and upon which he based his trilogy, 'The Lord of the Rings'. After a stop for refreshments at the nearby Sarehole Mill, we returned via 'Joy's Wood Nature Reserve', a beautiful woodland oasis, full of spring flowers, which had started its days as a 'dumping' ground for the City Council.
Surrounded by nature in its every form, it was hard to imagine that we had been walking through an area within a stone's throw of Birmingham.
