On Tuesday 24th June 2025, the Group held its final weekly meeting in Sutton Library, prior to its closure on Friday 27th June.
Birmingham City Council made the decision this year to shut down several of its libraries, in an attempt to save money and, unfortunately, no fewer than three branches in the Sutton area were singled out as suitable candidates, namely, Sutton Central, Walmley and Boldmere.
The Group made a presentation to some of the staff on duty at the time, to thank them for all the help and advice they have provided over many years, together with the Group’s sincere wish that every member retains his or her position elsewhere within the library service.
The Group, at this present moment in time, is therefore homeless! However, several alternative venues are being investigated and, it is hoped, more positive news will be announced in the near future.
